Experience Caramoan

Dubbed as the Secret Paradise, Caramoan is a showcase of long white sand immaculate beaches and virgin islands. Definitely a place you must visit whether you are a beach bum or not. If you want a relaxing and calm vacation with a touch of privacy avoiding a crowded place like the famous Boracay Island, then Caramoan Islands is the perfect destination.

We got there by plane from Manila to Naga, Legaspi is also an alternative but the travel is longer towards Sabang Port. Vans or V-hires going to Sabang port is located in front of SM City Naga. For 90 pesos and after 2 hours, you will be at Sabang port which you will now ride a boat towards Guijalo port. The 2 hour boat ride fare is 120 pesos When we reach Guijalo port, we really don't have any idea how to get to Paniman bay. Paniman bay is the main starting point when you go Island hopping to the Caramoan islands. During the time we where there, the bridge going to Paniman was damaged so the most effective way to get there is by motorcycle which will cost you 60 pesos depending on your trading ability.

Guijalo Port

On the way to Paniman bay.

We stayed at Breeze and Waves resort hotel. I can attest to you that it is such a good place to stay. It was refreshing to be met with such hospitality after our long journey. The people running the place were very accommodating not mentioning the tasty foods and clean rooms.

Breeze and Waves. 1500 pesos per night.

Here are some of the foods we've ordered. It costs around 120 to 180 pesos per serving.

blue marlin and mixed veggies

buttered blue marlin and adobong pusit

 steamed prawn and calamares

longganisa with eggs

shrimp adobo and bicol express

Island hopping boat rental costs 1500 pesos if you go island hopping to the south group of islands and 2500 pesos for the north group of islands which is more expensive because of distance factor. But for a whole day activity you can avail a 3000 pesos boat rental package for all the islands.

TEN DO's and DONT's

1. Must bring cash. There are no ATMs in the place and credit cards are useless too.
2. Transportation to Panima bay is one hell of a ride. The road is muddy and winding. For group travelers, tricycle is recommended, if not "habal-habal" (single motor) is preferable. Don't get fooled by their overpriced fare.
3. When you go Island Hopping, be sure to leave early in the morning when the tide is still low. You don't want to miss the sandbar at Lahuy island.
4. Our Lady of Peace Grotto at Mt. Caglago is also a must see, either you are religious or not. You can appreciate Caramoan's top view, it's breathtaking. Be sure to pay 15 pesos for the entrance fee and give the local tour guide a tip for they will accompany you on your way to the 527 steps.
5. Visit all famous islands as possible. Don't stay too long in one island, there's more to see.
6. If you are really adventurous, you can climb the rocky hill in Matukad island, beyond the rock formation is a hidden lake full of mysteries. Ask the locals about it, it's an interesting story.
7. If you are curious about the upcoming Survivor in Gota Village. Visit their construction site at Paniman bay. Gota village from now is already exclusive.
8. Avoid "kolorom" boat at Sabang port and Guijalo port. With the same price, the safety risk is high. Be sure to write your name and details on the boat's passenger manifesto. Prepare 10 pesos for the disembarkation at Guijalo port. You may choose to get wet or ride the "human habal-habal" or ride the floating bridge.
9. Know the boat schedules.
10. And lastly, visit the century old church. After all the fun, you need to give thanks to the Lord.
